Launch of Charlies Brewhouse

Press Release: New Micro-Brewery and Restaurant Launches on the Cape West Coast

An exciting new micro-brewery and restaurant is opening its doors on the Cape West Coast.

Charlie’s Brewhouse is idyllically situated on the water’s edge of the Port Owen Marina in Velddrif and will be officially open to the public after their launch on the 13th of June 2018.

The restaurant will be serving lunch and dinner every day of the week, and the varied menu, which has been developed by David Walker – formerly the resident chef of The Taproom at the Devil’s Peak Brewing Company, has something for everyone.

On the lighter side of the menu, and featuring a fusion of traditional British pub fare and local West Coast flavours, patrons can look forward to bar snack/starter items such as west coast mussels in ale and coconut sauce, beer prawns, chilled linefish cevishe, beef tartare and smoked hake & avocado bruschetta – to name but a few.

For mains Charlie’s Brewhouse will be serving up hearty fare such as honey mustard glazed eisbein, a pulled pork sandwich, home-made sausages served with creamy mashed potatoes, beer battered fish and chips and steamed beef and ale pudding with cauliflower puree. There are also salads on offer, such as a chicken caesar salad and a calamari and lentil salad.

And for those with a sweet tooth the dessert menu will not fail to entice, with dishes such as a chocolate and ale pudding, Eton mess, and a lemon posset with cranberry biscotti.

There is also a children’s menu featuring favourites such as hamburgers, fish and chips, bangers and mash, and steak and chips – making Charlie’s Brewhouse a wonderful new family friendly restaurant on the Cape West Coast.

Charlie’s Brewhouse is the latest enterprise by successful UK businessman and entrepreneur, Russell Foster, who now calls Port Owen home. Upmarket guest house and restaurant, Russells on the Port – also situated on the Port Owen Marina – is another of Foster’s successful West Coast establishments.

Foster explains that initially Charlie’s Brewhouse will be stocking a selection of locally sourced craft beers but once the brewery’s own production facility comes online the menu will change to offer only our own craft beers which will consist of a core range of four beer variants: an American Pale Ale, Lager, Bourbon Stout and Blonde Ale.

Future plans also include the launch of a gin distillery. Until then the restaurant will be serving Poetic Licence Gin imported from an independent small batch distillery in Sunderland, North East England.

The drinks menu at Charlie’s Brewhouse also features an extensive range of local wines – red, white, rose’ and sparkling, as well as ciders, soft drinks and milkshakes.

The water ways in the Port Owen Marina attract bird watching enthusiasts, boaters, canoeists, fishermen and families just generally enjoying the outdoors. I could not think of a better place to launch Charlie’s Brewhouse, or of a better spot to sit and enjoy a craft beer and a delicious meal – looking out over the water, watching the boats go by and relaxing with friends and family. I am very excited for this new venture and to welcoming the public to Charlie’s Brewhouse” concludes Foster.

Charlies Brewhouse is situated at 1 Marina Centre, Port Owen Drive in Port Owen.
